Earth Week Celebration At Airlie
April 21-25, 2008
Senator Gaylord Nelson first introduced his idea for Earth Day to a group of medical and law students participating in a 1969 conference at Airlie Center. The result was the first nationwide demonstration in support of the environment. Today Earth Day is celebrated worldwide and continues to promote and raise environmental consciousness. At Airlie we continue this important tradition established here 36 years ago.
At Airlie, we consider ourselves a steward of the hundreds of acres that comprise the Center's campus and the surrounding wetlands, meadows and woodlands. We pay careful attention to the delicate balance between the natural environment and the Center's operations.

Want to calculate your carbon footprint? Every time you drive, fly, use appliances, turn on your lights, warm and cool your home, carbon dioxide is emitted trapping heat in the atmosphere. Go to
http://www.conservation.org/act/live_green/Pages/ecofootprint.aspx and take the “ecological footprint” quiz to see how many acres of productive land and water you need to support what you consume and discard.
