ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Airlie Foundation and Conference Center holds itself responsible for the environmental impact of all aspects of its operation. Airlie has made a commitment to:
  • Minimize the effects of our operations on the environment by encouraging reduction, reuse and recycling in all of the Center's activities.

  • Maintain the grounds and buildings of the Airlie Campus in an environmentally sensitive way, supporting responsible land stewardship through the protection of local natural habitats and preservation of biological diversity.

  • Educate employees to be environmentally conscious and encourage responsible use of resources throughout the organization, including energy and water conservation.

  • Integrate responsible environmental practices into business operations by establishing goals, measuring progress, and reporting performance through the implementation of a comprehensive environmental management plan.

  • Work with other recognized environmental organizations to promote and support environmental education, research, and policy making.

DID YOU KNOW?

•  In 2004 Airlie's organic garden supplied over 4800 lbs of vegetables and herbs and edible flowers to the kitchen.

•  Airlie recycled more than 38 tons of waste (aluminum, glass, plastic, paper, steel, newsprint, and cardboard) in 2004.

•  Airlie's Food and Beverage department has instigated a safe seafood program banning Chilean seabass, swordfish and Mako shark, and added organic wines to its wine selection.

•  Environmental Studies at Airlie has surveyed 35 species of waterfowl and 38 species of butterflies on Airlie's campus.

•  Airlie's kitchen staff saved 12 tons of food scraps for compost at the organic garden in 2004.
