Airlie Community Outreach

Upholding a Spirit of Giving

Though our overall mission may be global in scope, giving back on a local level is just as important to us. Through environmental stewardship, public guest lectures, and special events, Airlie has become an intellectual and cultural fixture enriching lives in Warrenton, VA and Fauquier County. We welcome anyone interested in learning more about environmental stewardship, sustainable design, and green business initiatives to become involved in the Airlie community of learning and progressive thought.

From the center's inception in 1961, Airlie founder Dr. Murdock Head advanced environmental leadership as one of Airlie's primary missions, both in the stewardship of Airlie's natural resources and in the focus of our programs. Today, Airlie is recognized as a leader in green hospitality. Our Local Food Project, founded in 1998, was formed to help support local food systems in Fauquier County and we continue to purchase from over 30 small farms in the area. In addition, the program has given us the opportunity to host numerous public educational programs on local food systems, organic agriculture, and environmental stewardship.

Our Warrenton, VA hotel operates with minimal impact on the environment. In 2012, our 2,800 sq. ft. Pavilion received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold Certification, a significant milestone in our 50+ year commitment to environmental stewardship. In addition to our green development initiatives, Airlie's daily operations reflect a commitment to our community. A full recycling and composting program is in place to reduce waste and eco-friendly products are used in all of our operations.
